For his report on alternative for mercury use in the Artisanal and Small-scale Gold Mining (ASGM), Sani Abdul-Rahman, a journalist with the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, has been shortlisted in this year’s Ghana Mining Industry Awards.

The story highlighted the use of mercury in gold processing in the unmechanized mining sub-sector and its effect on human health and the environment.

Mr Abdul-Rahman provided more efficient and profitable alternative gold processing methods, as he advocated for the withdrawal of the dangerous metal in Ghana’s ASGM sector.

It is the second consecutive time the financial journalist has been nominated in the ‘Best Mining Reporter’ category after winning the prize in 2020.

Mr Abdul-Rahman is also the host of Weekly Press Review, a newspaper wrap-up analysis show on the State Broadcaster’s GBC News Channel.

The 7th Ghana Mining Industry Awards will come off on November 19, 2021, at the Marriot Hotel in Accra.
