The Delegation of German Industry and Commerce in Ghana has reaffirmed its resolve in supporting the government of Ghana to ensure a sustainable management of plastics and improvement of clean energy.
Hosting its 7th West African Clean Energy and Environment Trade Fair and Conference 2019 (WACEE’19) from 6th -8th November 2019 aimed at bringing on board experts from international organisations and local companies to deliberate on ways to ensure sustainable water and waste management.
Dr Michael Blank, head of the Delegation of German Industry and Commerce in Ghana (AHK Ghana), in briefing the media about the upcoming event said energy and the environment all over the world could only be tackled with a united front.
He said hosting of the WACEE’19 in Ghana was a great opportunity for the country adding “Ghana can show that the topic that is energy and environment is important for Ghana, and Ghana can prove that its business is strong and has strong partners when it comes to energy and environment”.
He said the impact of wastes was obvious for all to see which he said needed urgent attention.
WACEE is a relevant renewable energy and environment event in West Africa which was started in 2012. It is an event where experts and technology suppliers showcased their latest Scientific developments and innovative products and services in the areas of Clean Energy, Water and Circular Economy.
Mrs Katharina Felgenhauer, Head of German-Ghanaian Competence Centres; Head of Competence Centre Energy and Environment, said the WACEE’19 would focus on renewable energy, energy efficiency, waste management and water management.
She said the festival would begin with conversations in providing the right solutions for energy and environmental challenges and added that the centre was a department, where individuals could enquire about new technologies, solution providers both Ghana and Germany and West Africa.
Mrs Katharina said this year’s festival would cover a broad range of topics clean energy, water and circular economy adding that the event has become a West African festival.
She stated that the guiding principle for this year’s event was “nothing changes, if nothing changes” which she said would bring people from the public and private sectors, civil society and academia to discuss on ways to combat the nagging environmental challenges at hand.
Mr Andrew N. M. Aryee, Project Manager Competence Centre Energy and Environment Communications and Media, in explaining the details of the event said the programme was geared towards promoting the interest of investors and business leaders into the Ghanaian market and to strengthen the energy supply industry.
He welcomed anyone active in the areas of clean energy, water and circular economy to come and participate in the festival.
He said the event would comprise over two thousand participants adding that they would make sure that the use of plastics were minimized in the course of the event.
He said they introduced the participants to better management of waste resources and noted that the WACEE’19 conference was made up of three conferences with each day focusing on one topic.
He said they were expecting about forty speakers from Ghana and other country including; some of the European countries.
He said the event would have fifty exhibitors with two country pavilion made up of about eight companies in the Austrian pavilion and about 10 companies in the German pavilion.
He added that there were twenty five companies both from Ghana and other West African countries, which he said showed the interest of businesses in the Ghanaian market and also the West African market.
He said the centre created a platform For the WACEE’19 event to help in creating awareness to people that keeping the environment clean, access to clean drinking water, or access to reliable source of energy was also relevant for growth of the Ghanaian economy.
Mr Alexander Sicking, Project Manager, Competence Centre Energy and Environment, head of the German-Ghana Water Week, said the water week would begin from 5th-8th of November with series of training workshops which would bring together Ghanaian and German leaders and practitioners in water management from public and private sectors, civil society and academia.
The Water Week under the theme “From Ideas to Action: Stimulating German-Ghanaian Innovative Solutions for Water Management” which he said was aimed at boosting the transfer of knowledge, the exchange of experiences and discussion of strategies for sustainable water management.
