All is set for the national tree planting exercise scheduled for today across the country. Dubbed the “Green Ghana project”, the exercise is expected to get Ghanaians from all walks of life to individually and collectively plant at least five million trees around marked zones in the country.

President Akufo-Addo is expected to plant a commemorative tree at the precincts of the Jubilee House, at 1pm, while the Vice President Dr. Mahmoud Bawumia,  Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin and other government officials also do same by planting trees at designated points.

Ghana has in the last few decades suffered dramatic forest degradation and deforestation. This has mainly been due to human activities such as galamsey, bushfires and illegal felling of trees.
