It has been reported that Ghana, for the fourth consecutive time, has failed to make progress in its fight against corruption and corruption-related issues.

In a report issued by Transparency International, Ghana scored 43 out of a clean score of 100, ranking 70th out of 180 countries and territories included in the Corruption Perception Index 2023.

According to the report, the index showcases that for four consecutive years, Ghana has been at the same position in its anti-corruption efforts and fights.

Even though Ghana is stagnant in her anti-corruption efforts, with a score of 43, it performed better than 39 other Sub-Saharan African countries, including Burkina Faso with 41, South Africa with 41, Cote d’Ivoire with 40, Tanzania with 40, and Lesotho with 39.

Ghana’s score, according to the report, underscores the global trend of deteriorating justice systems, which is reducing the accountability of public officials and allowing corruption to soar higher than expected. It also raises questions about the efforts and work of the Special Prosecutor.

With Ghana’s stagnancy in the fight against corruption as projected by the report, top performers include Seychelles, Cape Verde, Botswana, and Rwanda, scoring 71, 64, 59, and 53, respectively.

Equatorial Guinea, Sudan, and Somalia had the lowest marks per the report, scoring 17, 13, and 11, respectively.
