Today marks a significant day for Christians around the world as they observe Good Friday, a solemn occasion commemorating the crucifixion of Jesus Christ over two thousand years ago.

The celebration is marked with the singing of solemn hymns and prayers of thanksgiving. The day was commemorated with advice to Christians to sacrifice for one another and help promote peace in the country as the country gets prepared for the election 2024.

Churches and believers across the globe have gathered today to reflect on the sacrifice of Jesus and the profound meaning of the day. It is a time of prayer, contemplation, and remembrance. Good Friday celebration gives the message that Christ had to suffer for the sake of mankind.

In Koforidua, the Eastern regional Capital, while the Charismatic and Pentecostal Churches are holding conventions, the Orthodox churches have also organized Station of the Cross to symbolize the journey of Christ with the cross. The St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in Koforidua held the procession and the Station of the Cross starting from the M/A Basic School at Nsukwao through the principal street of Effiduase to the Parish grounds at the St. St. Theresa’s Parish in Effiduase Koforidua in the New Juaben north municipality of the Eastern Region.

The procession which saw members of the church was climaxed with a reenactment of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ at the parish prayer ground. In an interview with GBC News, the Parish Priest of the Church, Rev. Fr. Richard Dordunu called on Ghanaians to follow the footsteps of Jesus by making a valuable sacrifice to make the lives of others and country better. He urged politicians to desist from using violence as a means to gain political power as the country is gearing up for election 2024.

The Koforidua Area of the Christ Apostolic Church International, CACI commemorated the day with an Easter convention at the Koforidua Prisons Park in Effiduase. The Koforidua Area Pastor who doubles as the Head Pastor of the Koforidua Central Assembly of the Christ Apostolic Church International, Apostle Daniel Quaye noted that the Easter convention is always being organized to remind Christians of the sacrifices that Jesus Christ made and also to win souls for Christ.

He advised politicians to always preach peace and always undertake activities that will bring peace before, during and after the 2024 elections. Apostle Quaye expressed his optimism that President Akufo-Addo who is a devoted Christian will ascent the Anti-LGBTQI+ bill as the activities of the LGBTQI+ undermines Christian values and the thinking of God.

To many Christians, Good Friday serves as a moment for introspection, forgiveness, and reconciliation, offering an opportunity to strengthen spiritual bonds and reaffirm fundamental values of love, compassion, and sacrifice.
