The Member of Parliament for Ketu North, Edem Agbana, representing the National Democratic Congress (NDC), emphasized the party’s commitment to holding the government accountable and let Ghanaians know the true state of affairs of the country.

It has come to light that the government spent $12 million on the suspended Agyapa royalties deal, as revealed by the CEO of the Minerals Income Investment Fund, Edward Nana Yaw Koranteng, during a Public Accounts Committee (PAC) sitting.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo ordered the suspension of the Agyapa deal in 2021 following public outcry.

The deal, aimed at raising funds for key infrastructure projects through mineral royalties, was suspended after opposition from the NDC and civil society organizations.

During an interview on GTV’s Breakfast Show on February 20, 2024, Edem Agbana criticized the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the $12 million spending on the suspended Agyapa royalties deal.

He also raised concerns about the Office of the Special Prosecutor(OSP) and the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice’s (CHRAJ) failure to act on corruption-related issues mandated by the constitution.

“The big problem is that one of the state institutions mandated by our constitution and laws to work in the interests of Ghana is refusing to act on similar issues,” he stated.

“In 2025, when we come to power, we will ensure that we go after everyone who stole from the people of Ghana.”
