President Akufo-Addo has directed the IGP, to provide a 24-hour security protection to former Special Prosecutor, Martin Amidu with immediate effect.

This follows claims of threats on his life after releasing his corruption risk assessment on the controversial Agyapa Mineral Royalties Deal.

A statement by the Director of Communications at the Presidency, Eugene Arhin said Mr. Amidu has been asked to provide the Police with details of persons who have issued him such threats, so that they can be dealt with in accordance with the law.

Martin Amidu on Monday, November 16, resigned from office as the country’s first Special Prosecutor. Among other things, he cited interference by Government in his work and the death of former President Jerry John Rawlings who to him, was a source of protection from the threats on his life after conducting a corruption risk assessment on the controversial Agyapa Minerals Royalties deal.

His resignation has been received with mixed reactions. The Presidency has denied the claims made by Mr. Amidu.
