Government is investing in Energy sector- Minister

Minister of Energy, Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh has urged the public especially the Media to disregard claims that government is not investing in the Energy Sector especially at a time the country is experiencing power outages.

He said his Ministry is doing its best to make sure all worn-out wires and cables are changed to meet the growing demand of the public.

Tuesday, the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) released a timetable to guide the disruption of power supply to parts of Greater Accra. This follows what it says are ongoing system improvement works on the Pokuase Bulk Supply Point.

In a statement, ECG said the project will require a complete shutdown of the 330kilovolt transmission line thereby affecting power supply and reliability of the Mallam Bulk Supply Point. The timetable is expected to kickstart from Monday, May 10 to May 17, 2021.

Areas to be affected have been divided into four groups. Those in group A include Odorkor, Awoshie, AbekaLapaz, Sowutuom, Ablekuma New Town, Opeikuma, Lamptey Mills and others.

Speaking during a tour of the Pokuase Bulk Supply Point, Dr. Prempeh pleaded with Ghanaians to bear with the sector as it works on the transmission lines to restore power to its full capacity.

Minister of Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah in a remark urged the Media and Sector Players to follow up on the project to ensure work is done diligently. He said the public needs to understand the roadmap of the projects going on so that they can get the full benefit of the upgrade.
