The Commercial Division of the Accra High Court presided over by Justice George Koomson has fixed July 24, to deliver judgement on a contempt application initiated against the National Chairman if the New Patriotic Party, (NPP), Freddie Blay.

The Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice, (CHRAJ), had initiated the action praying the Court for Mr. Blay to be cited for contempt.

It was the case of CHRAJ that the NPP  chairman  has intentionally avoided service on him with regard to a petition before CHRAJ asking the anti corruption body to investigate the purchase of some 275 buses he gave to each constituency.

In court today, Justice Koomson directed all the parties in the matter to file their written addresses within 14 days.

Mr. Blay, whom according to CHRAJ could not be served appeared in court and had also through his lawyers filed his affidavit in opposition, clearing the way for judgement.

The NPP Chairman on his  affidavit in opposition filed on Monday, among other things  indicated that his attention has been drawn to a myriad of publications on online portals concerning the issue at hand.

But he however, denied all the claims made in the motion filed by CHRAJ.

Mr. Blay in the affidavit said that he had not looked down on or disobeyed any directives, orders or instructions of CHRAJ.

He argued that, the application under reference does not and cannot meet the standard of any proper application for attachment of contempt.

Previously in court, lawyers of CHRAJ were advised by the High Court to locate the residence of the National Chairman NPP and serve him with the complaint filed against him by the Coalition for Social Justice over his purchase of some 275 buses for all Constituencies of the NPP across the country

Lawyer for CHRAJ, Bete Doku said that all efforts to find Chairman Freddie Blay, to serve him had proved futile.

She however, prayed for the Court to grant them an opportunity to use other means of service to bring the complaint to the attention of the NPP National Chairman.

Speaking after proceedings Mr. Blay said CHRAJ did not make enough efforts to find him. He noted that he has no reason to hide because he has done nothing wrong adding that some people are trying to play politics just to implicate him.
