Yaa-Naa promises to uphold the dignity of Dagbon

The chiefs and people of the Dagbon traditional area have outdoored a new chief, Ya-Naa Abdulai Abubaka at the Gbewaa Palace in Yendi.

This follows the successful performance of final funeral rites of two previous Overlords of the Dagbon Kingdom which was delayed following protracted chieftaincy disputes.

The Friday, January 25, 2019, outdooring of the new Yaa-Naa, saw many Ghanaians from all walks of life characterised by colourful display of culture and tradition, with grace and splendour at the forecourt of the Gbewaa Palace.

In a speech read on his behalf Ya- Naa Mahama Abukari assured the people of Dagbon of an accelerated Peace and Stability in the area.

He promised to uphold the dignity of Dagbon by strengthening the relationship Dagbon has with its neighbours.

The Ya-Naa Abukari, who is the 42nd overlord of Dagbon, said he will strengthen the good and friendly relations within Dagbon as well as neighbouring communities to forestall further conflicts.

Ya Naa Abubakai commended President Akufo Addo for his relentless effort to help restore peace in the area.

He called on the business community to invest in Dagbon to help bring rapid growth and development there.

The Ya Naa’s speech which was read by the former member of the Council of State, Vo-Naa M.B Bawa, promised to diligently serve his people and be fair to all.

“After 15 years of hard work and compromises by the Committee [of Eminent Chiefs] and conflicting parties, the Abudu and Andani families agreed for the investiture of what we are seeing today.”

“Let me assure all the people of Dagbon [that] for the rest of my active life, long or short, I will be devoted to the service of Dagbon. I shall endeavour to uphold the dignity and pride of Dagbon. I shall uphold the customs and traditions of Dagbon. I shall strengthen the good and friendly relations Dagbon has with all of its neighbours and beyond,” he added at his coronation service today in Yendi in the Northern Region.

Yaa-Naa expressed his appreciation all the people especially Otumfuo and his team of Eminent Chiefs, among others, whose efforts helped Dagbon to get a new overlord after several years of standoffs.

He also appealed to government to build a new palace befitting of the Dagbon Kingdom.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo who also spoke at the event urged the people of Dagbon to rally behind the new Yaa-Naa and offer him their full support in a bid to sustain the current peace being enjoyed in the area.

“To paraphrase the words of the Holy Scripture, the enskinment of Yaa-Naa Abukari Mahama II is the Lord’s doing, and it is marvelous in our sight. Let us give him all the support he requires, as he sets about to administer the affairs of the state of Dagbon,” he said.
