National President of the Judicial Service Staff Association of Ghana, JUSAG, Samuel Afotey Otu has urged members to stay focused and not to be swayed by political influence ahead of this year’s general election.

He said as the elections draw near staff of the Judicial Service should continue to work within the tenets of their duties to safeguard the independence of the judiciary.

Mr Otu made the call at a health walk organised by JUSAG as part of activities to mark its 50th Anniversary celebration.

Scores of staff including Registrars, Recorders, Clerks and some members of the bench participated in the health walk which started from Ayi-Mensah to the Peduase Lodge in the Eastern Region.

The walk was to promote health and wellness among staff. Staff from Sogakope in the Volta region and Bongo in the Northern Region took part in the walk which underscored the need for unity.

President of the Association was concerned with the long hours staff of the Judicial Service sit to perform their routine tasks. This he noted does not promote good health.

He encouraged regular exercise among members in line with Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo’s call for unity using sports.

Greater Accra Regional Chairman of JUSAG Ramsey Ahorklui said there are more activities lined up to celebrate the 50th anniversary.

He mentioned floats, health screenings, sporting activities, and symposiums.

JUSAG was formed in Cape Coast in 1873.
