A stakeholder’s forum on Phase Two of the redevelopment and modernization of the Kumasi Central Market and its associated infrastructure project has been held in Kumasi. The Lead Consultant of the project, Architect Tony Yeboah-Asare gave assurance that the project will be completed and handed over by February 2024. The stakeholder’s forum on Phase Two of the redevelopment and modernization of the Kumasi Central Market was attended by officials from Ministries of Finance and Local Government and Rural Development, traders and transport operators. The contractors executing the project sensitized the stakeholders to the progress of work so far. The project, which is estimated at a cost of 248 million Pounds Sterling, is being financed by the Deutsche Bank of Germany with export credit guarantee from the United Kingdom Export Finance.

When completed, the new Kumasi Central Market will have six thousand 500 leasable commercial spaces, five thousand 400 closed stores, 800 kiosks, 50 restaurants, 210 fishmonger and butcher stands and 40 livestock sheds. The market will, in addition, have a waste treatment plant, a police station, a fire station, post office and first-class roads leading to and from Adum. The Lead Consultant of the project, Architect Tony Yeboah-Asare gave assurance that the project will be completed and handed over by February 2024.

The Kumasi Metropolitan Chief Executive, Mr. Sam Pyne used the forum to address a major concern of the Assembly relating to traders at the Kejetia Market Terminal incurred huge electricity bills but refusing to settle them.

Otumfuo’s Liaison Officer for Kejetia-Central Market Redevelopment Projects, Nana Agyenim Boateng urged residents to collaborate with the government to ensure speedy completion of the Second Phase of the project.
