The Vice-Chairman of the Somė COVID-19 Committee has accused the Ketu South Municipal Assembly for confusion in the markets when it comes to the observation of social distancing by traders.

According to him, the managers of the Agbozume and Hedranawo markets are the ones causing the chaos in these two main markets under their jurisdiction for supervision.

Apostle Mawuli Emmanuel Ashigbui said, “It is the assembly that is causing the mess in the market, not our mothers or sister because with this social distancing they don’t want to make any correction”.

“They have been shouting and closing down markets but let me be frank with you, the assembly is doing a lot of things without consulting the Traditional Authority for those decisions to be implemented correctly” he added.

Speaking to journalists after touring the Agbozume market with his committee members to ascertain the true state of affairs in the market in relation to coronavirus management, Mr. Ashigbui revealed that, some politicians have blatantly refused to respect traditional rulers meanwhile, “Chiefs and elders are the custodians of the land and they established these markets”.

For his part, the Assemblyman for Agbozume South Electoral Area and a member of the Committee, Godson Ahiamadzi, said, the market is choked and must be decongested immediately to avert the potential spread of any disease.

He said some traders have abandoned their stalls and now trade on the road and walkways in the market.

Mr. Ahiamadzi warned that there will be possible arrest and prosecution of recalcitrant traders if they continue to flout the COVID-19 guidelines.
