Kumasi: Police secures restraining order to stop Gangara celebration during EID

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has secured a restraining order against two feuding Moshie Chiefs over Gangara celebration.

A release to the media signed by the Ashanti Police Public Officer, ASP Godwin Ahianyo said credible intelligence available to the Police indicates that two Moshie Chiefs Alhaji Ibrahim Abdul Rad man of Moshie Chief’s Palace at Alabar in Kumasi and Alhaji Yusuf Adams of Paakoso also in Kumasi and their respective supporters will clash on Tuesday 3rd May,2022 during the Gangara  celebration which is the mounting of Horses after the Ramadan.

Based on this the Ashanti Regional Security Council after extensive deliberations over the issue on Wednesday 27th April,2022 took a decision to restrain the two leaders from mounting any horse to prevent imminent clash.

The Regional Police was therefore given the mandate by REGSEC to operationalize the decision.

The Police then proceeded to High Court on Friday April 29, 2022  and applied for the Order which was subsequently granted and the two rival Chiefs duly served.

The Command therefore entreats the two chiefs to comply with the order for the sake of peace and security.

Police personnel will also be deployed on the day of the celebration to ensure compliance of the order.

Muslim the world over would be observing the EID celebration to mark the end of the fasting period.
