President John Dramani Mahama will begin a state visit to Belarus on Friday at the invitation of President Aleksandr Lukashenko.
According to a statement issued by Presidential Spokesperson and Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the visit is intended to strengthen bilateral relations between Ghana and Belarus and explore new opportunities for cooperation in key sectors of the economy.
A central feature of the visit will be bilateral talks between the two leaders, followed by an expanded meeting involving ministers and senior government officials from both countries.
The discussions are expected to focus on strengthening partnerships in agriculture, education, commerce and other areas of mutual interest.
As part of the visit, Ghana and Belarus are expected to sign at least four bilateral agreements aimed at deepening cooperation and promoting economic growth.
President Mahama will also travel to the western Belarusian city of Brest, where he is scheduled to tour a major agro-processing facility that produces milk, cheese and baby food products. The visit is expected to support knowledge-sharing and potential partnerships in agro-processing, in line with Ghana’s industrialisation and food security agenda.
During his stay, the President will pay tribute at the Victory Monument in Minsk and visit the Brest Hero Fortress Memorial Complex, which commemorates the Soviet defence against Nazi Germany during World War Two.
He will also visit the UNESCO-listed Belovezhskaya Pushcha National Park, one of Europe’s last remaining primeval forests.
President Mahama is expected to conclude the visit and return to Accra on June 9.
