Minister inspects fish farming project in Ho

The Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture, Elizabeth Afoley Quaye, has inspected a fish farming project by the 66 Artillery Regiment of the Ghana Armed Forces in Ho.
The project on a 12.5 hectare land, has a 119 intra Cooler Sandcrete Ponds, an ultra-modern Hatchery, Sedimentation tanks, Boreholes and Storage tanks.
The Regiment embarked on the project in 2012 with two Ponds and this attracted the collaboration of the Youth Employment Agency in 2016.
The 66 Artillery Regiment intends to expand the ponds to 525 and construct additional ancillary facilities to complement its hatchery which produces about 25 million fingerlings annually, to make the project the biggest Fish farm in the country as well as the sub region.
The Manager of the Fish Farm, Captain Isaac Frimpong said when completed the project will complement government’s effort at ensuring food security as well as create job avenues for the youth.
He urged the Ministry of Fisheries to assist the Regiment to get investors for partnership.
The Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture, Elizabeth Afoley Quaye, who was impressed with the progress of work on the farm, lauded the effort of the 66 Artillery Regiment and said it falls in line with the Ministry’s “Fish Farming for Food and Jobs” initiative.
She pledged the support of the Ministry towards the project and was optimistic that it will supplement Ghana’s declining fish stock.
