More than 88,000 voters to exercise franchise in by-election

All is set for 88,745 voters to exercise their franchise in the Ayawaso West Wuogon parliamentary by-election slated for Thursday, January 31.

The District Electoral Officer, Ayawaso West Wuogon, Rashid Nantongma, told the Ghana News Agency in Accra on Wednesday that voting would begin at 0700 hours across all the 137 polling stations in the Constituency and end at 1700 hours.

The by-election was necessitated by the death of Emmanuel Kyeremateng Agyarko, Member of Parliament for the Constituency, on November 21, 2018.

He was laid to rest on January 26.

Contesting candidates include Delali Kwasi Brempong, National Democratic Congress (NDC); Clement Boadi, Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG); William Dowokpor, Progressive People’s Party (PPP); and Lydia Syram Alhassan, New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Madam Alhassan is the wife of the late Agyarko.

Mr. Nantongma said there was adequate security on the ground to see to the peaceful conduct of the polls.

He said preferential treatment would be given to People with Disability to exercise their franchise; adding that special arrangements had been provided for them.

He said all materials needed for the conduct of the by-election had been provided.

He said the Central Cafeteria of the University of Ghana would be the collation Centre.

Mr. Nantongma said if all things went well, the results would be declared early.

He appealed to registered voters in the Constituency to go out in their numbers to exercise their franchise.
