The Ministry of the Interior has announced an immediate restriction on the use of motorbikes in Binduri Township and its surrounding communities in the Upper East Region, following an attack on a military patrol team by unknown assailants.
In a statement issued on April 28, 2026, and signed by the Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, the government described the directive as a necessary step to stabilize the security situation and support ongoing operations in the area.
According to the Ministry, the temporary ban is aimed at maintaining law and order, safeguarding lives and property, and enabling security agencies to effectively carry out their duties in response to the incident.
Residents of Binduri and nearby communities have been urged to remain calm and exercise restraint as authorities work to restore peace. The government also called on chiefs, elders, opinion leaders, and the youth to promote unity and encourage the use of lawful and peaceful means in resolving grievances.
The statement warned that anyone found violating the directive will be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all citizens, emphasizing that measures such as these are critical in times of heightened tension.
Security presence in the area is expected to be increased as investigations into the attack continue.

Following an attack by unknown assailants on a military patrol team in Binduri, Upper East Region, the Ministry of the Interior has, with immediate effect, restricted the use of motorbikes by all persons in Binduri Township and its environs.
In view of the security situation, the restriction is a necessary measure to maintain law and order, protect lives and properties and support ongoing security operations in the area.
Government urges Chiefs, Elders, Opinion Leaders, the Youth and all residents of Binduri and surrounding communities to exercise restraint and remain calm. Citizens are encouraged to use peaceful and lawful channels to address grievances and to support efforts to restore lasting peace.
Any person who contravenes this directive will be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
The Ministry of the Interior remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of all citizens.
