Following the recent boat accident on the Volta Lake, the Executive Director of the Bureau of Public Safety, Nana Yaw Akwadaa has condemned the tread of authorities who wait for disasters to occur in the country before they take action.

He said disasters are bound to happen but leaders are reluctant when it comes to focusing time and resources to resolve them.

“Coming under spontaneous weather is not a new thing but what measures have we put in place. These are things that we can easily anticipate. What measures did we put in place to prevent this? The measures were not there and l can bet you that this boat traveling may not have had adequate vests for the passengers but these are things that Ministers upon Ministers have made pronouncement on that they are going to provide people who are been fared across the Volta”.

Mr. Akwadaa bemoaned the inadequate provision of sea vests by the authorities. He advised authorities to incorporate the habit of always anticipating disasters with the potential of causing harm to society.

“One of the keys in the transportation sector where it comes to the incident is that, whenever there is a transport incident, one should take the opportunity to audit systems measures, controls to ensure that those things would not be worse”.

He tasked leaders to educate and provide better conditions of work.

“We must put in a system to ensure that these guys are well educated, they will actually be able to access weather reports from the meeting department periodically and having to define then transport route for them so that in the event where there is an erratic change in the weather, they are able to move before they are hot because climate change is here with us and whether we like it or not we will experience a rapid change in weather conditions at one point in our traveler “.
