The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), has announced the immediate temporary suspension of three pharmacies from participating in the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), following the discovery of suspected irregularities in their claims and service transactions.
The affected facilities are DELDEM PHARMA LIMITED, PARAMEDICA PHARMACY, and DESH CHEMIST. The suspension takes effect from 14 May 2026.
According to the NHIA, a routine claims verification exercise uncovered what it described as “material irregularities” linked to the pharmacies. The Authority said the findings raise “reasonable suspicion of fraud and abuse” under the NHIS Provider Service Agreement.
As a result of the decision, the three pharmacies are barred from dispensing medicines or providing services under the NHIS for the duration of the suspension. The NHIA has advised NHIS members to seek care from other accredited providers nationwide.
The Authority also issued a strong warning to all credentialed healthcare providers, stressing that fraudulent or abusive practices against the scheme will not be tolerated. It noted that providers found guilty of such offences risk fines or imprisonment of up to 10 years upon summary conviction.
The NHIA reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring transparency, accountability, and prudent use of public funds in order to safeguard the sustainability of the national health insurance system and maintain access to quality healthcare services across the country.
