Chairman of the National Media Commission, Yaw Boadu Ayeboafoh, has stressed the need for hosts of interactive programmes in the electronic media, to be well informed on subject matters they deal with, in order to better educate the public on socio-economic issues.

Mr Ayeboafo said this when he met with Management and Staff of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation in Accra, on the final leg of the NMC’s national tour of media houses.

He said as hosts of programmes it is essential that they are well equipped with the necessary information to enable them to respond to inaccurate comments that might be made by members of the public in the course of the programme.

Mr Ayeboafo appealed to media houses to conduct regular training sessions for their personnel to enhance their productivity.

The NMC Chairman also expressed concern about the situation where some journalists in the regions do not enjoy risk allowance.

He said this is unacceptable since the lives of journalists in the Regions are as important as their colleagues in Accra.

Mr. Ayeboafo urged management and unions of media houses to forge closer collaboration for the development of their organization and ensure enhanced service to the nation.

For his part, the Director General of GBC, Professor Amin Alhassan assured the NMC of measures being taken to address the concerns raised.

He expressed gratitude to the NMC for the extensive tour of the Corporation’s regional offices to ascertain firsthand the challenges and concerns of workers.
