The National Service Scheme (NSS) has noted with utter dismay the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC’s) consistent campaign of scraping National Service for newly-trained tertiary level teachers from the Colleges of Education when it comes into power.

Management of the Scheme in a statement said it is unfortunate that what is perceived as of public interest is being politicized.

It advises politicians to stay away from denigrating a nationally accepted programme that serves as a transition between school and the world of work which instills the sense and spirit of nation building and civic responsibility in the youth.

Management of the Scheme with approval from the Government introduced the service programme for the newly-trained teachers in 2018 to afford newly-trained teachers an opportunity to offer a one-year national service in fulfillment of Act 426 of 1980 and is to be done during the period of the already existing induction or probation programme that usher newly-trained teachers to full teacher status.
