Persons who flout the COVID-19 protocols in Accra will from Tuesday, August 10, face arrests, a fine or prosecution.

The Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council gave the directive to Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies as the region continues to top cases in COVID-19 infections.

Speaking to GBC News, Regional Director of Health, Dr. Charity Sarpong explained that according to latest figures from the Ghana Health Service, Greater Accra is a hot spot in the third wave, recording over 3,000 active cases of the highly deadly Delta variant.

Hence, the Council’s directive to MMDAs to immediately reactivate District Public Health Emergency Management Committees to clamp down on persons who fail to comply with the wearing of face masks, social distancing, hand washing among others.
