The Accra Regional Police Command says it received notice on Sunday, May 29, 2022 of an intended demonstration from a group of persons notably Okatakyie Afrifa Mensah, Captain Godsbrain Smart, Benjamin Darko, Oliver Barker-Vormawor and others.

The demonstrators among other things indicated they will picket at the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation GBC, and the Police Headquarters, adding that they will speak directly to the nation on GTV and layout their grievances at Broadcasting House.

A statement from the Police said the group indicated that they will use private armed security and the demonstration will last for three days, starting from Saturday 4th June 2022.

The statement signed by Chief Inspector Bright Kwabena Danso, assured the public of the Service’s readiness and willingness to provide the necessary protection for any lawful demonstration in the country.

However, it said the Service is of the view that the nature and character of the intended demonstration is inconsistent with the Public Order Act, and therefore unable to provide security for a demonstration, which has the potential to result in a breach of Public Order and Safety.

The Police has therefore asked organisers to reconsider their proposal and work with them towards the organisation of a lawful, peaceful and successful demonstration.

It is assuring the public that in the interest of public safety and security, the Police has put in place all necessary measures to ensure that unauthorized persons do not march the streets with weapons.
