Police begin investigation into death of man at Accra Zoo

The Police have commenced investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of a man who was allegedly attacked by one of the lions at the Accra Zoo.

The victim who is yet to be identified was found dead in the lion enclosure of the zoo yesterday.

A statement by the police, said after the necessary forensic examination of the scene, the body was removed and has been deposited at the Police Hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy.

It said the police are working with the management of the zoo and the Forestry Commission to get to the bottom of this unfortunate incident.

BACKGROUND

A man believed to be in his mid-thirties has allegedly been killed by lions at the Accra Zoo. Officials believe this is a case of suspected theft.

But it is unclear what triggered the man to scale the protected mesh wire fencing into the arena of the lions but Forest Officials are assuming he was there to steal one of the cubs.
