The Overlord of Dagbon, Ya Na, Abubakari Mahama, has called for a better relationship between the police and the public to foster peace in Dagbon.

He said, a relationship based on mutual trust, understanding and respect is key to sustainable peace in Dagbon and commended the Inspector General of Police for his efforts in addressing the recent impasse between the Gbewaa Palace and the Yendi Divisional Police Commander.

The Ya Na made these remarks when a delegation from the Police High Command called on him at the Gbewaa Palace.

The delegation included the Director General of CID, Ken Yeboah and the Director General of  Operations of Operations, Maame Yaa Tiwa Addo Dankwah, who were at the palace to ascertain the cause of the recent impasse that led to the sacking of the Yendi Divisional Police Commander from Yendi.

According to the Ya Na, Dagbon has gone through some difficult moments in recent times and nothing should be done to destroy the peace prevailing in the area.

“The authority and role of the skin and for that matter, any traditional institution must be seen and regarded as such in conflict resolution,” he noted.

The Director General of CID Ken Yeboah, on behalf of the IGP, apologised to the Ya Na and assured him of the support of the police hierarchy.
