Police intensifies security in parliament as president presents SONA tomorrow

The Ghana Police Service has brought more crash barriers, more personnel and other security gadgets to Parliament House ahead of “Presidential Messages” to be delivered by The President on Thursday,  February 21, 2019.

GBC’s sources closed to The Police, say more officers will be deployed from The National Headquarters to assist existing Paliamentary Police Service who are already on the ground around the clock, (24/7).

According to our sources, the crash barriers will be used to control and direct the crowd that will be here(forecourt of Parliament) for free movement people around.

Other gadgets will be used to scan and screen all persons including hundreds of Journalists who are permitted to enter The Chamber Block.

Members of Parliament, Parliamentary Service Workers, Members of The Parliamentary Press Corps and other dignitaries are expected to be seated by 9am before public business at 10am for The President to deliver.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is expected in Parliament to pressent a message on the State of the nation in line with Article 67 of The 1992 Constitution of Ghana.

The Presidential Messages under Article 67 of The 1992 Constitution stipulates, “The President shall, at the beginning of each session of Parliament and before a dissolution of Parliament, deliver to Parliament a message on the state of the nation”.

Meanwhile, when Radio Ghana’s news team hit the streets of Koforidua to sample public views and what they expect the President to say, some of them said they are expecting the president to address the unemployment situation and also touch on measures he is putting in place to address security situation in the country which they claimed is threatening foreign investment drive of the country.

They noted that, activities of vigilantes heighten whenever the country is approaching elections.

Some are also demanding that the president clarifies the current state of the Free Senior High School, (SHS) policy while others suggest to him to find more prudent means to collect the toll booth levy in order to rake in more revenue for development
