Former Rector of the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), Professor Stephen Adei, stated that the power supply (Dumsor) experience during the government of John Mahama was more erratic and severe than the current power outages.

Speaking in an interview on TV3 on Monday, April 22, he warned that if the current situation is not addressed appropriately, the challenge will escalate.

“The power crisis is not as bad as the Dumsor days, but if we don’t take care, it will only get worse,” he emphasized.

Prof. Adei offered the government strategies to address the current challenges which he emphasized the need to address bottlenecks hindering the full utilization of existing capacity.

Additionally, he stressed the importance of developing a national strategic agenda for the long term. Adei suggested that the government should immediately waive import duties on solar panels and related items to encourage solar energy adoption, highlighting the benefits for both the country and the government.

He also underscored the importance of improving the efficiency of the ECG (Electricity Company of Ghana) as part of the solution.
