Chief Justice Justice Gertrude Torkornoo has called for responsible journalism ahead of Ghana’s 2024 Elections.

She reminded the media of its crucial role in maintaining social cohesion and cautioned against sensationalism which could trigger unrest in the country. She advised that media reportage ahead of the upcoming elections must be devoid of inciteful comments and bias. 

Chief Justice Torkornoo gave the advice during her maiden interaction with members of the Judicial Press Corps in Accra. 

She acknowledged the important role of Court reporting to the dissemination of information on justice delivery in Ghana.

Chief Justice Torkornoo said the Judicial Press Corps serve as the interface between the judiciary and the public. In view of this, she charged the members to learn and understand the Court processes to be able to report accurately and effectively on cases before the various courts. 

She also spoke on the need to demystify the court process to enable the public appreciate its relevance and prevent unnecessary anxiety. 

Chief Justice Torkornoo promised to ensure that all relevant information is made available to the Court reporters to enhance their work. 

Six new members of the Judicial Press Corps were also sworn into office.
