President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has hinted of government’s intention to create an agency that will solely be responsible for gathering intelligence on security issues.

The move is to help expedite action on security threats especially on crimes perpetrated by both indigenes and foreigners.

President Akufo-Addo made this known when the leadership of the Council of Independent Churches paid a courtesy call on him at the Jubilee House in Accra.

The Council of the Independent Churches were at the Presidency to among other things congratulate President Akufo Addo for his exemplary leadership skills especially in resolving the Dagbon crisis.

Discussions with the council centered on security, climate change, sanitation and vigilantism which has become topical in recent times.

The Administrator of the Council of the Independent Churches, Rev. Dr. Patrick Addison who spoke on behalf of the delegation appealed to President Akufo-Addo to attach the same zeal used in addressing the Dagbon crisis to eliminate vigilantism from the country.

Commenting on the security of the country, President Akufo-Addo said government is currently recruiting about four thousand police officers to improve the ratio of the  police to the growing population.

He intimated that there is the need for an Agency that will be able to gather information on security for swift action.

On vigilantism, President Akufo-Addo reiterated his commitment to address the problem. He said the peace and security of the country cannot be marred by thugs.

President Akufo-Addo appealed to the church and other stakeholders to support government’s efforts aimed at changing the fortunes of the economy.
