Armed robbers have attacked some traders on the Kumawu-Drobonso road in the Sekyere Afram Plains district of the Ashanti region, leaving some of the victims with gunshot wounds.

The traders who were in two separate taxis were returning from the Bodomase marketing centre near Kumawu when they were attacked.

According to the Police, the robbers numbering about six were in the process of mounting a roadblock at a section of the main Kumawu-Drobonso feeder road at about 4.30 pm yesterday when the first of two taxi cabs got there.

Head of the Drobonso Police, Chief Inspector Borbor Boaz, noted that the driver of the taxi refused to stop and escaped gunshots by the robbers.

He said a few minutes later when the second cab reached the spot, the driver also refused to stop and was pelted with bullets. However, the bullets hit one Abena Adu, who was in the front seat with the driver.

Chief Inspector Boaz said the woman was rushed to the Roman Catholic Rest Center for treatment.

When the Kumawu Police arrived at the scene, the robbers had already bolted.

Meanwhile, the Drobonso Police are appealing for logistical, financial and other essential resources to enable them to improve upon their emergency response to situations, particularly armed robberies which are rampant in the district.
