Residents of Otumi in the Kwaebibirem District of the Eastern Region are calling on government and organisations to help roof the Kwaebibirem Model Junior High School block which was ripped off by a rainstorm last Saturday.

Narrating the incident to the media, Assistant Headteacher of the school, Abubakar Yaminu said the two-hour downpour ripped-off the school block and dumped the roof on a nearby building which is under construction.

He appealed to government and benevolent organisations to help roof the building before the students resume classes from their semester break on the 22nd of this month.

The Assembly Member of the Community, Ransford Abrem noted that the school was the first model school constructed under the erstwhile President John Agyekum Kufuor’s administration and since then, the building has not seen any renovation.

The school which was constructed over 20 years ago was roofed without quarter rods and concrete beams. The Patron of the Development Committee of the Community, Apostle Nicholas Missah appealed to government to as matter of urgency help roof and renovate the building so that academic work will not be delayed.

The community also appealed to government to construct a second cycle institution in the area adding that the chiefs are prepared to provide land for the project.
