Today 26th December is Boxing Day. A public holiday observed across several nations immediately after the Christmas festivities.
The day is historically connected to the United Kingdom and its former colonies, including Ghana. It is when gift boxes, usually kept in churches, are traditionally opened and its contents distributed to the poor.
Though not common in recent years, some churches still open boxes on Boxing Day.
Here in Ghana, Christians have been tasked to use the Christmas festivities to share and show love to the needy and vulnerable in society.
A Deaconess of the Berean Assemblies of God at Ogbojo, near Madina, Mrs Juliana Vigbedor, in a sermon to commemorate the birth of Christ, noted that everyone has his or her own understanding of what Christmas means but ultimately it is a day of remembering the less privileged and going to their aid.
The Deaconess asked Christians to go all out to win more souls for Christ by preaching His love for the world.
Mrs Vigbedor said God is looking for faithful Christians to intercede for friends, unbelievers and the world at large.
