Snatching of motorbikes at gunpoint in Upper East rampant

The Upper East Regional Office of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has expressed worry over reported cases of snatching of motorbikes at gunpoint in the Region.

The Authority is therefore calling on the District Assemblies to assist it clamp down on the worrying trend that poses a threat to residents.

While commending officers of the Special Weapon and Tactics, SWAT unit of the Ghana Police Service for their night patrol, the Regional Manager of the Authority, Muktawakil Abdulai, urged them to weed out insiders who give information on their activities to criminals.

Meanwhile, the Upper East Regional Police Operations Commander, DSP Eric Van-Kofi has described as worrying deteriorating conditions of vehicles and operational logistics of the Command as well as the loss of manpower as a result of transfer without replacement.

He stressed that the Operational Unit remains the live wire of the Regional Police Command which must be retooled with new vehicles and motorbikes to deal with the sophisticated threat and crime facing the region.

DSP Van Kofi made this known at a parade organised by the Special Weapon and Tactics Unit of the Upper East Regional Police Command in Bolgatanga .

Deputy Commissioner of Police DCOP Alexander K Amenyoh commended Officers of the Unit for their collective effort at improving the operational office, by making the Police Service a better organization.

He further commended the media and the  public for their collaboration with  the Service and called for maximum cooperation by way of information to help combat crime in the region.
