As part of activities to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the existence of Save Our Souls, SOS Children’s Villages Ghana, the Asiakwa SOS Children’s Village in the Eastern Region has organized a float through the principal streets of Kyebi and Asiakwa Townships in the Abuakwa South Municipality of the Region to increase awareness of their existence in Ghana for the past 50 years.

During the float, flyers documenting the impact of the SOS Children’s Villages Ghana on the lives of the less-privileged mostly children and young people in Ghana for the past years were shared to the public.

The National Chairman of the 50th Anniversary Planning Committee and National Youth Development Advisor of SOS Children’s Villages, Ghana, Mr. Godknows Kwaku Kporha noted that SOS Villages have so far impacted the lives of over 30 thousand young people and families to become economically empowered and resilient for the past 50 years of its existence in Ghana.

The SOS Children’s Villages Ghana since its presence in Ghana in 1974 has been supporting the lives of children and young people without parental care, or at the risk of losing it. They ensure that children grow with the care, protection and relationships they need to become their strongest selves and be self-resilient and reliant.

The float which is to increase the awareness of their activities and achievements in the Kyebi and Asiakwa Townships, saw hundreds of the young beneficiaries, staffs, and officers participating.

In an interview with GBC News, the National Chairman of the 50th Anniversary Planning Committee and National Youth Development Advisor of SOS Children’s Villages, Ghana, Mr. Godknows Kwaku Kporha mentioned that people see the organization as a school, however, he explained that SOS is a humanitarian international organization that undertakes interventions to empower children’s and the young people in the community to become self-reliant with the school being a complementary service of the organization.

Mr. Kporha mentioned that though the organization has touched many lives for the past 50 years, they want to reach out to more people in the years ahead.

The Programmes Director of Asiakwa SOS Children’s Villages, Madam Josephine Afrawuah noted that SOS for the past 50 years has helped in transforming the lives of children and young people in Ghana, giving quality health care to children and offering support to children who need help.

She therefore, called on individuals and organizations who share in their vision to support SOS to come on board so that many more lives will be touched.

Line up of activities for the 50th Anniversary Celebration began with the unveiling of the 50th Anniversary Logo which was done a few weeks ago.
