A Boys Development Advocate, Ethel Adjorlolo-Marfo says people should stop telling men when they are emotionally stressed to be brave or tough enough to deal with a difficult or unpleasant situation.

She said, “due to the training men get when growing, they are trained to act tough. So, when they find themselves in situations in which they need to talk or cry, they try to act strong because society frowns on it.”

Madam Adjorlolo-Marfo made these remarks on GBC’s ‘Women’s Voice’ which discussed the topic “Raising Boys Right”.

“Men are also human beings. They are equal to women and they also need attention,” she stated on Wednesday, October 21.

She also urged parents to pay attention to their sons when growing saying “at that age, that is where they can be well-groomed in order to be good citizens in the country and good husbands to their wives”.

For her part, Ag. Director of Children, Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Florence Ayisi Quartey remarked that boys should be given the opportunity to explore and be themselves in terms of choosing certain professions.

She also advised young men to adopt good behavior in order to excel.
