Furnish visually impaired students with digitalized learning equipment

The Director of the New Horizon Foundation of the Blind, Eric Kobla Ofori has appealed to government and other relevant stakeholders to provide visually impaired students with digital equipment to enable them to perform well in mainstream schools.

He said aside braille, textbooks can be incorporated into the digital equipment to enable them have easy access to all reading materials. Mr. Ofori made the appeal in an interview with GBC News when the New Horizon Foundation of the Blind in collaboration with the Deutsches Blindenhilswerk (DBHW) organised a capacity-building session for some selected 50 teachers, including educational officers on inclusive Education for Learners with Visual impairment at Ho. The participants who came from thirteen schools with visually impaired Pupils in the Ho Municipality were sensitized on how to handle them with care to enhance teaching and learning.

Director of the New Horizon Foundation of the Blind, Eric Kobla Ofori stressed on the need to provide at least tablets or laptops for visually impaired pupils to enable them to participate and perform like their colleagues.

The Programmes Coordinator for the New Horizon Foundation of the Blind, Richard Ametefe urged teachers to avail themselves for capacity-building sessions, to enable to be in the position to handle persons with visual impairment in their various schools.
Some participants who spoke to GBC News said they have been enlightened on how to handle persons with visual impairment and pledged to implement what they learnt in their various schools”.
