Tema Robbery: 7 arrested for scrambling ‘stolen money’

The Tema Regional CID has arrested seven persons for taking part in the scrambling of various amounts of money summing up to GhC120,845.00 when GHC123,345.00, belonging to a robbery victim was thrown away by one of the robbers who was being pursued by Police.

The seven have been charged with stealing. Three of the suspects, Richard Attoh alias Amartey aged 30, Qaadir Bancey 31 and Awudu Mohammed alias Vuga aged 36 have admitted to taking part in the scrambling and pocketing of a total of GHC2,500.00  from the crime scene. The remaining suspects are Sulemana Bancey- 62, 66-year-old Kwesi Hanson Smith, Kabul Akuaku – 53 and David Nartey Daniels who is 30 years old.

This was contained in a statement signed by the Acting PRO of the Tema Regional Police Command, Chief Inspector Stella Dede Dzakpasu. It would be recalled that on Thursday, April 23, the Police responded to a robbery incident at the TDC traffic light where two robbers on a motorbike immobilized the vehicle of their victim by firing at the tyres and took from them an amount of 123 thousand 345 Ghana Cedis in two polythene bags, which had been withdrawn from the bank a few minutes before the incident.

One of the robbers was immediately shot by the Police in an exchange of gunfire, while the other, took to his heels, throwing the bags of money into the street, as he was being pursued by the Police. Onlookers scrambled for the money and failed to return same, leaving with only two thousand 500 Ghana Cedis salvaged by the victim. Intelligence gathering led to the arrest of the seven.

The Tema Regional Police Command is, therefore, urging the public who witnessed the incident, to provide information leading to the arrest and retrieval of all the money robbed from the victim. The numbers to call are 191, 18555 and 0244287775.
