Two motorists have been burnt to death in an accident yesterday (February 19) involving a commercial van in Bolgatanga.

The incident which occurred few metres from the popular hospital junction on the Bolgatanga-Navrongo road left eyewitnesses and bystanders helpless as the man believed to be in his 30’s was seen gasping for life while trapped and being consumed by fire under the vehicle.

According to eyewitnesses, who spoke to GBC NEWS, the van, loaded with drinks and reportedly headed for Navrongo was run into shortly after the deceased motorist and a pillion rider were seen overtaking oncoming bikes from the opposite direction.

The eyewitness accounts say the riders lost control and rammed into the moving vehicle which had 3 passengers on board, heavily loaded with bottled drinks.

An explosion was heard, followed shortly by flames suspected to be caused by the crash of the motorbike beneath the vehicle.

Though a team of police and officials of the Ghana National Fire Service arrived on the scene, only the drinks and a part of the vehicle could be salvaged.

Meanwhile, two of the passengers on board the vehicle have been rushed to the Bolgatanga hospital.

An eye witness, who wanted to remain anonymous gave an account of what happened.
