Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has officially launched the YEA Job Center and two other initiatives, with a call on the private sector to partner government to create the needed jobs for the teeming unemployed youth.
The initiative seeks to link job seekers to available vacancies.
Vice President Bawumia noted that although about 350,000 jobs have been created for the youth through various policies over the last two years, the unemployment rate in the country continues to soar. This, he said, calls for more collaboration between government and the private sector.
He entreated the youth to take advantage of the initiative and register with the Center for sustainable jobs.
The three new programmes, the Job Centre, the Artisan Directory and the Regional and District Flagship are all geared towards the creation of a common platform that will connect job seekers to employers in all fields within the public and private sectors across the country.The Job Center will capture all formal and informal employers as well as graduate and non-graduate job seekers.
The Artisan directory, which is targeted at those in the informal sector will include skills development that will build the capacity of artisans and craftsmen and train new ones in various crafts like carpentry, tiling, hairdressing and plumbing among others while the Regional and District Flagship is premised on the peculiar Agro-Business needs of the various districts across the country.
The Vice President said it is a new dawn in curbing youth unemployment as the youth are the future of the better Ghana that all envisage.
He indicated that government has over the past 2 years embarked on a massive drive to build the capacity of the youth, stressing that these initiatives will equip the youth with the needed skills for the job market.
He impressed upon the private sector to support government in this agenda to create sustainable jobs for the younger generation.
Vice President Bawumia announced that government has over the last two years created about 350,000 jobs in key sectors of the economy.
The Vice President commended the YEA for making the initiative a reality. Some participants and job seekers at the forum had the opportunity to register on the Job Center Portal.
Meanwhile, Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia has waded into the debate on the recent increases in electricity tariffs as announced by the PURC.
He said government, taking into consideration the burden on businesses, decided to agree on an increase of just 5.6%.
