Western Region now hotspot for coronavirus infections

The Western region has become the new hotspot for coronavirus infections in Ghana.

According to the Ghana Health Service, 57 new cases have been recorded in the region and this is mainly in Tarkwa and the Sekondi-Tarkoradi metropolis.

The Ashanti region had earlier been identified as the hotspot after the Obuasi Township recorded 272 cases of the Coronavirus disease.

Director General of the Ghana Health Service Dr Patrick Kumah Aboagye said Obuasi is currently under control however a lot more cases are emerging in the Western region which need to be dealt with.

He added that a team has been dispatched to the region to bring the situation under control.

Ghana’s COVD-19 case count now stands at 6,964. This was announced by the Director-General of the Ghana Health Service, Dr. Patrick Kuma-Aboagye at the coronavirus briefing Tuesday, May 26.

According to him, about 156 new cases have been recorded in Ghana and this goes to show the new trend of showing much fewer cases. The cases were identified in five out of the 16 regions.
