It was organised by the National Steering Committee on Child Labour, Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations in collaboration with Japan International Co-operation Agency.

The objective is to build the capacity of stakeholders for the implementation of a policy to ensure that Ghana becomes a Child Labour-free zone.

Participants were trained on how to use ICT to address the challenges of child labour at the National, Regional and District levels. The roles of Ministries, Departments and Agencies, NGOs, International Agencies and other stakeholders in the fight against child labour were also discussed.

Director of Japan International Cooperation Agency, Yamashita, who addressed the participants via zoom reiterated the essence of ICT in the fight against child labour.

Assistant Chief Director at the Labour Office of the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations, Madam Elizabeth Akanbombire said the Ministry is initiating policies to help eliminate child labour. She noted that about one point nine million children in Ghana are engaged in child labour.

They work in Cocoa growing and mining areas, whilst others are trafficked to engage in prostitution.

Madam Akanbombire stressed the urgent need to address these challenges.

The Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Municipal Chief Executive, Alfred Amoah, urged the participants to collaborate with the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations to work towards the elimination of child labour.
