A delegation from the World Bank Group has paid a working visit to the Anwiah–Teleku–Bokazo Cooperative Mining Site in the Ellembele Municipality to assess Ghana’s ongoing efforts to formalise the artisanal and small-scale mining sector.

The visit formed part of the World Bank’s broader interest in supporting initiatives that promote responsible, safe, and sustainable mining practices across the country.

During the inspection, the delegation toured the mining site to observe operations and evaluate compliance with key regulatory and safety standards. Areas of focus included occupational health and safety measures, the prevention of child labour, environmental protection, and adherence to responsible mining practices.

The delegation comprised representatives from rCOMSDEP, the World Bank Group, the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, the Ghana Landscape Restoration and Small-Scale Mining Project, the Environmental Protection Authority, as well as traditional leaders from the host communities.

Officials say the visit offered an opportunity for stakeholders to evaluate progress made under Ghana’s formalisation agenda and explore areas of collaboration to improve standards within the small-scale mining sector.

rCOMSDEP reaffirmed its commitment to deepening partnerships aimed at building a formalised, responsible, and sustainable small-scale mining industry that creates economic opportunities while protecting communities and the environment.
