The Greater Accra Regional Police Command has withdrawn its application for an order prohibiting actress Yvonne Nelson and two others, Selorm Dramani Dramado and Henry Osei Akoto, from holding the intended #DumsorMustStop demonstration.

The Judge, Justice Lydia Osei Marfo, said the Police had written a letter to the Court to withdraw its application and accordingly struck it out.

The respondents were absent from Court and had no legal representation.

Unofficial reports indicate that the said injunction application was withdrawn because of the organisers acceptance to vary their initial route for the protest as suggested by the police.

The planned demonstration was scheduled for May 25, 2024, at Revolution Square in Accra to protest recent power outages in parts of the country.

The Greater Accra Regional Police Command headed to Court as the organisers failed to agree with it on the proposed route for the protest at a meeting held on May 15.

Yvonne Nelson organised a similar protest in 2015 during the intermittent power cuts, popularly referred to as dumsor, amidst claims that the situation was affecting businesses.
