At least 200 babies constituting one percent of newborns need heart surgeries every year in Ghana, and about 18.7 million adults have heart issues across the world.

This is why a concerted effort to promote awareness creation about cardiovascular diseases is needed.

Speaking in Accra at the launch of ‘World Heart Day’ which falls on September 29 every year, the Acting Director of National Cardio Thoracic Center, Professor Mark Tettey called for a more reliable and effective foundation that will facilitate free heart surgeries for Ghanaians.

He also called on government and philanthropists to support the Center in its drive to construct a new facility to address the issue of congestion.
