Residents of Akatsi in the Akatsi South District of the Volta Region have called on government to complete work on the new Akatsi South District Hospital started in 2012.

The residents disclosed in an interview that the delay in the completion of the new facility is putting pressure on the old structure and making access to healthcare a big challenge.

The Assembly Member for the area, Jacobs Amegatse, said the contractor left the site and locals engaged as casual workers have been sent home.

He said the project was scheduled to be completed in 2015 but is still at a standstill and people are not willing to access healthcare at the old facility due to inadequate facilities and staff.

The facility which is said to be 70 per cent complete has male and female wards, Central Supply and Sterilisation Department, laundry, theatre and a mortuary.  Checks by the GNA show that some parts of the building are fast deteriorating.
