President Akufo-Addo has called on public sector auditors to assist government in its drive to curb the indiscipline in the management of public finances.

Government, he said has resolved to support all state institutions with oversight mandate in the fight against corruption and other financial malfeasance in the public sector.

President Akufo-Addo made the call in a speech read for him by the Minister for Planning, Professor George Gyan Baffour at the 2019 Annual Internal Audit Conference in Accra.

President Akufo-Addo reminded Ministers, Chief Directors and Chief Executives that the Public Financial Management Act of 2016, mandates them to establish an effective system of risk management, internal controls and internal audit units in their establishments.

He entreated them to work with the Internal Audit Units and other staff to ensure that their control systems are robust and resilient to protect the resources of their organisations.

President Akufo-Addo lauded the work of the Internal Audit Agency and promised to resource it. The Acting Director General of the Internal Audit Agency, Ransford Agyei said the mandate of the agency is to ensure that national resources are adequately safeguarded and used economically, efficiently and effectively.

This, he said formed the basis for the focus of the two-day conference which is the role of the oversight bodies in protecting national resources. Three internal auditors who were adjudged to have been outstanding were honoured.
