Minister in charge of Government’s Communication, Felix Kwakye Ofosu has revealed that the Auditor-General has transferred GH¢6.1 million to the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, also known as the Mahama Cares Fund, following directives from President John Mahama.

According to the Minister of Government Communications, the amount was deducted from the salaries of government appointees in support of the Fund.

The Minister in a Facebook post on Thursday, May 7, 2026, explained that at the launch of the Fund last year, President Mahama pledged to donate six months of his salary to the initiative.

Mr. Kwakye Ofosu added that the President later encouraged his appointees to also donate one month’s salary each to support the Fund.

He further stated that appointees who failed to meet the first deadline for asset declaration were directed to forfeit three months of their salaries, which would also be paid into the Fund.

The Minister said the Auditor-General has formally notified the government that the GH¢6.1 million has been deducted and transferred in line with the President’s directive.

He added that arrangements are currently underway to transfer the final tranche covering deductions from appointees who defaulted on the asset declaration deadline.
