The Black Stars on Tuesday, 2nd January, 2024 opened camp in preparation towards the big tournament, AFCON, in Cote d’Ivoire. The four time champions will start their first training section immediately a handful of the squad arrives in Kumasi.

Ghana heading into the Africa Cup of Nations are very optimistic about their chances of making it trophy number five in the 34th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations after years of wait.

In a discussion on the Breakfast Show on Tuesday 2nd January, 2024 on GTV, the Communications Director for the Ghana Football Association, Henry Asante Twum emphasised on the Black Stars chances of making an impact in the AFCON.

He outlined that, although the recent performance of the Black Stars has not been good, there is still another opportunity to impress in the Africa Cup of Nations. He said, Ghana has some rich history in the AFCON tournament dating back to the early 1960’s and late 1980’s. 

He further hinted on Ghana’s chances of qualifying out of the group stage with the presence of record holders Egypt standing tall to cause an havoc for the Black Stars.

He said although Egypt holds a better record in the tournament, the right focus, right Mentality and good tactics can make the difference for Black Stars.

“There are numbers of factors we can take from this tournament, both for us and against us. The factors that play in favor of us, is having a neighboring country hosting the tournament, which will allow Ghanaians to easily go and support the Black Stars”; said Henry Asante Twum.

He also clarified the ticket purchasing issue, stating that, tickets will be sold on Match days. He further encouraged fans who are yet to purchase their tickets, not to lose hope. CAF has sent a circular that, there will be ticket booth at all the match games. He added that, the prices of the tickets should range from ¢120 to ¢170.

We have a technical team that has no AFCON experience in terms of leadership but nothing is impossible with the experience of Chris, George and Didi, I strongly believe that, if we are able to start well against Cape Verde, which is the hope of every single Ghanaian, we will be able to go all the way”; Henry Asante Twum said.
