Three people have been killed and five others wounded after an abandoned bomb exploded in Ethiopia’s capital, Addis Ababa.

The blast happened in the city’s Lideta neighborhood yesterday. Senior Police Officer, Alemayehu Ayalke said the people who died were homeless and living on the streets.

There is no indication that the explosion is linked to the crisis in the northern Tigray region. Fighting between federal and regional troops from the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) began last month and has forced 50,000 people, into Sudan.

Reports say there have been other incidents of abandoned bombs either found or detonated in Addis Ababa in recent weeks, but most of it did not cause deaths.
